KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Rhodes College softball team finished their Florida Spring Break trip with a pair of wins over Ramapo and McDaniel to conclude the week at 7-1. The Lynx have now was 10 out of their last 11 and have already matched their win total from last season (16) as they move to 16-4 on the year.
Rhodes got things started against Ramapo and after two innings of scoreless ball, freshman
Karrah Flores broke the scoreless tie with a three-run bomb to left for the early lead. The Lynx made it a 4-0 lead in the fifth thanks to a RBI single from freshman
Katelynn Bresler.
The Roadrunners would get two back in the fifth inning to cut their deficit in half, but freshman
Kendall Henry made it a 5-2 game with a RBI double in the sixth inning. Freshman
Bri Maniscalco finished the game off, earning the complete game to give the Lynx the victory.
Maniscalco (8-2) allowed two runs off six hits to go with three strikeouts and only one walk.
Henry finished 3-for-3 with three doubles, a RBI, and a run scored while Flores, Bresler, and senior
Rachel Pewitt, all had two hits each. Junior
Caroline Sutton and sophomore
Kirsten Samuels each had a stolen base.
In the second game against the Green Terror of McDaniel, the Lynx got another terrific performance from sophomore
Allison Long (5-1), who scored her third complete game of the weekend and second complete game shutout.
The Lynx offense struck for a run in three different innings as Pewitt had a RBI single in the first while Long helped her own cause by reaching on an error in the third inning to score another run.
Freshman
Jill Healy put the game away in the fifth with solo shot to left as Rhodes led 3-0.
It was all Long needed, as she pitched all seven innings, allowing no runs on six hits while walking no batters for the win. Junior
Christine Hume had the only multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 from the plate while Pewitt, Healy, and Henry had the only other hits for Rhodes.
Rhodes will return home and enjoy the rest of the weekend off before going back on the road as they start up SAA play again, heading to Danville, Ky. for a three game series against Centre. The series starts on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 12 PM.
