Softball Picks Up Two More Wins in Florida Over Hiram and Bridgewater

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Rhodes College softball team continued to roll on Friday afternoon, picking up a pair of wins over Hiram College, 3-1, and Bridgewater College, 9-0 (5), to move to 14-4 overall.

The Lynx have now won seven of their last eight contests and are 5-1 in Florida with two more games to go tomorrow morning.

In the first game, Rhodes jumped out to a 1-0 lead over the Terriers thanks to a RBI double from freshman Kendall Henry. Hiram would tie it up in the second, but the Lynx moved ahead for good in the third as senior Rachel Pewitt laced a double to left.

Rhodes added an insurance run in the fifth as sophomore Maggie Mitchell singles home a run to put Rhodes ahead 3-1.

Sophomore Allison Long (4-1) was excellent in the circle, throwing her second complete game of the week, allowing one run on five hits to go with a strikeout and a walk.

Junior Christine Hume finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two stolen bases while Henry and Pewitt were each 1-for-3 with a RBI double. Freshman Katelynn Bresler and sophomore Kirsten Samuels were each 1-for-2 on the afternoon.

In the second game, RBIs from freshman Karrah Flores and Mitchell gave Rhodes a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Freshman Bri Maniscalco (7-2) dominated the circle to keep the Eagles off the scoreboard.

The Lynx blew the game wide open in the seventh inning, scoring seven runs to move ahead 9-0. Hume started the inning with a two RBI single followed by a passed ball with the bases loaded to eventually score Hume. Sophomore Caroline Reilly belted a two RBI single while freshman Jill Healy had a two RBI double in the big inning.

Maniscalco came out in the bottom of the fifth and put the Eagles down to finish the game in five, earning the complete game shutout. She allowed no runs on five hits to go with three strikeouts and no walks.

Hume was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored while Pewitt was 2-for-2 with a run scored. Healy and Reilly each had a pair of RBIs while junior Caroline Sutton and freshman Haley Rath each stole two bases.

Rhodes will look to finish their Florida trip strong on the final day tomorrow morning as they take on Ramapo and McDaniel beginning at 9:00 AM ET.
