Dominant Fourth Quarter Lifts Lynx Women to Road Win Over Berry

ROME, Ga. - The Rhodes College women's basketball team outscored the Berry College Vikings, 16-3, in the fourth quarter to turn a four point lead into a 16 points win on the road on Sunday afternoon, 56-39.

Rhodes shot 21-for-62 (33.9%) from the field and 3-for-22 (13.6%) from downtown while Berry shot 12-for-50 (24.0%) from the field and 3-for-18 (16.7%) from deep. Though the Lynx were outscored 21-11 in bench points, Rhodes outrebounded the Vikings, 46-38. The Lynx also dominated the turnover battle, forcing 21 on the afternoon while only giving it away 13 times.

After falling behind 6-0, the Lynx went on an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to two thanks to work in the post done by senior Symone Daniels, junior Bailey Kramer, and sophomore Jessie Ustick. Berry would close the quarter with a 3-pointer to lead 13-8 after one.

Rhodes would come storming back in the second quarter, outscoring the Vikings 16-9 thanks to 10 points from Daniels in the quarter. Her effort push the Lynx ahead 24-22 at the break.

In the third quarter, Rhodes would push their lead to as many as seven as Daniels continued to play excellent. However, Berry cut the Lynx lead to four going into the fourth quarter.

From there, Rhodes would completely and totally dominate the fourth quarter to run away with the game. They held the Vikings to only one made field goal, pushing their lead to double digits behind the strength of Daniels and Kramer. The Lynx held Berry scoreless for the final 5:01 for the 56-39 victory.

Daniels had one of her better games of the season, finishing with 21 points and 11 rebounds to go with six steals while Kramer also had a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Junior Blaire Smith also finished in double figured with 11 points while adding four assists. Senior Hannah Orth added four assists and three steals off the bench. 

For Berry, Zarriah Pierce led the scoring output with 10 points while Emma Cook had seven points and eight boards.

Rhodes moves to 11-10 overall and 5-5 in Southern Athletic Association play. The Lynx will be back in action on Friday as they return to Mallory Gymnasium for Senior Night. The Lynx will recognize five seniors at halftime on the men's game as they take on the Centre College Colonels at 6 PM.
