BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Rhodes College women's basketball team saw its 2015-16 season come to a close in the quarterfinals of the Southern Athletic Association Championships with a 73-63 overtime loss to the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels.
Rhodes was cold from the field, finishing 23-for-84 (27.4%) from the field and 8-for-34 (23.5%) from downtown. On the other side, Oglethorpe shot 22-for-58 (37.9%) from the field and 4-for-14 (28.6%) from deep. The Lynx forced 17 turnovers while only turning it over 14 times, but were dominated in the paint, 29-8. The Lynx finished with 17 points off the bench.
It was a back-and-forth first quarter as each team exchanged buckets on both sides of the floor. With the Petrels leading 10-8, the Lynx got a 3-pointer from freshman

Blaire Smith kept Rhodes ahead throughout the quarter, holding a 19-16 lead after one.
With the score at 25-23 midway through the second quarter, the Lynx closed the half on a 7-2 run thanks to scoring from Young, senior
Catherine Eckert, and 3-pointer from Smith to take a 32-25 lead at the break.
In the third quarter, the Lynx used a 12-1 run thanks in part to a pair of 3-pointers from senior
Symone Daniels as well as a pair of buckets from Ustick to push their lead to 44-30 at the midway point. However, Rhodes began to turn the ball over thanks to a daunting press from the Stormy Petrels as they went on a 14-2 run to cut the deficit to 46-44. Smith scored on a layup with 10 seconds remaining to give Rhodes a 48-44 lead going into the final quarter.
Oglethorpe continued to carry the momentum over from their run in the third as they went on top for the first time since the first quarter, 52-51, with 7:35 remaining in the game.
Rhodes responded with five straight points including a huge three from Eckert to lead 56-52 with under five remaining. However, the Stormy Petrels responded with a 7-0 run to move back ahead 59-56.
With less than two minutes remaining, Smith went hard to the basket and forced a foul while connecting on the layup. She added the free throw to complete the 3-point play and tie things up at 59. Both teams had chances to win it, but could not connect as the game moved into overtime.
In overtime, the Lynx went ice cold while Oglethorpe began to heat up as Rhodes only hit one field goal in the period with that coming with 25 seconds. The Lynx would be outscored 14-4 in the overtime period to fall, 73-63.
Smith had a great game, finishing with 14 points, nine rebounds, and five assists while Daniels added 13 points and seven rebounds including three 3-pointers. Eckert added 11 points and two steals while Ustick scored 10 off the bench. Junior
Bailey Kramer had eight points and 12 rebounds to the lead the Lynx while Young had four points and four rebounds off the bench.
Bailey Charles led the way for Oglethorpe with 27 points and 11 rebounds while Emily Buck had 15 points and nine rebounds.
The Lynx finish the year 13-13 overall.
