MEMPHIS - The Rhodes College men's soccer team saw their 2016 season come to a close as a pair of Berry College Vikings goals in the second half downed the Lynx in a 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Rhodes Soccer Field.
Rhodes out shot the Vikings 13-11, but Berry held an 8-6 advantage in shots on goals. The Lynx also held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks for the game.
Rhodes held a 6-5 shot advantage in the first half, but neither team could find a goal throughout the first 45 minutes. Four of the Lynx six shots on goal came in the first period as freshman
Bowen Burdette and sophomore
George Winfrey got a few early looks while junior
William Mitchell and freshman
Will Lawler each got a shot off in the final two minutes.
In the second half, Berry finally broke through in the 57th minute as JT Kieffer scored to take the 1-0 lead. Rhodes scratched and clawed to find and equalizer to extend the match as they out shot the Vikings 7-6 in the second half.
However, it was not to be as Berry put the game away in the 84th minute as Steven Moore gave the Vikings an insurmountable two goal lead with only five minutes left to play.
For Rhodes, they conclude their season at 8-8-1 as they finished third in the conference for the regular season.
Burdette led the attack on Saturday with three shots while Mitchell, junior
Matt McKeand, and junior
Mark Robinson each had two shots on the afternoon. Sophomore
Patrick Wilkerson finished with six saves.
The Lynx say goodbye to two seniors in
Evan Wladis and
Conner Tipton as they move into the offseason and will look to prepare and improve for 2017.
