MEMPHIS - After a tough loss to nationally ranked Catholic, the Rhodes College field hockey team blasted the College of Wooster to the tune of 9-0 at Mason Field on Sunday morning.
The Lynx wasted no time as junior
Christina DiFelice scored in the first minute off an assist from senior
Mary Rose Hazel. Ten minutes later, the Lynx added a second goal as junior
Mackenzie Busby rocketed a beautiful shot off a corner from senior
Jordan Kugler for a 2-0 lead.
Rhodes would add three more goals throughout the first half thanks to goals from senior
Alex Friedman, sophomore
Maddie Smith, and sophomore
Georgie Wilkins. The Lynx were completely dominant throughout the first half, outshooting the Scots, 21-0 while holding an 8-0 advantage in corners.
In the second half, the Lynx used a 15-minute stretch midway through the second half to pull away and secure the 9-0 win. Wilkins would add two more goals for a hat trick while sophomore
Lauren Travis and senior
Evy Royther each added a goal.
As a team, the Lynx out shot Wooster 37-6 with 24 of their shots on target. They also held a 22-1 advantage in corners. Wilkins had a big game with three goals while six other Lynx found the scoring column. Royther and Travis each had both a goal and an assist. Senior
Julie Hertzman led the way in shots with six with three on target.
Sophomore
Laura Eckelkamp had four saves in the contest and picked up her second shutout of the year.
Rhodes moves to 2-1 on the season as they split the St. Jude Classic over the weekend. The Lynx will hit the road this upcoming weekend, heading to Greencastle, Ind. on the campus of DePauw University. Rhodes will battle Wittenberg on the Tigers field on Saturday at 12 p.m. followed by a matchup against DePauw on Sunday at 11 a.m.
