Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lynx Score Three in Win Over Ohio Wesleyan

MEMPHIS - The Rhodes College women's soccer team were back in action on Sunday afternoon as they took on the Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops at the Rhodes Soccer Complex. The Lynx scored two goals in the first half and added a late goal in the second half to earn a 3-0 win over the Bishops.

Freshman Sydnie Schindler found sophomore Sarah Rostamo early in the first half as Rostamo scored the second goal of her career and her first of 2015 in the 11th minute to give the Lynx an early 1-0 lead.

It didn't take long for the Lynx to make it a 2-0 lead as Schindler did it herself this time, scoring her first goal of her young career as Rhodes was in complete control.

The Lynx kept the energy up throughout the first half, outshooting Ohio Wesleyan, 17-0, and earning six corner kicks throughout the half. It would be more of the same in the second half, though the Bishops tried to find a goal of their own to get back into the contest. Rhodes was still able to outshoot their opponent, 14-4.

In the 88th minute, sophomore Ellie Valega connected with freshman Aly Hoyt, who scored her first career goal, and put the game out of reach at 3-0.

Schindler was able to get eight shots off in the game to lead the offense while senior Elizabeth Wayda added four shots. Senior Shannon Donelson, junior Nicolette Glidden, and junior Kelsey Sweeney all had three shots in the contest.

Sophomore Anna Maldonado got the start in goal and earner the victory for the Lynx, her first of 2015 as well as her first shutout of the season.

Rhodes moves to 4-2-1 on the season and will go back on the road this upcoming weekend. They will start out on Saturday with a 1 p.m. matchup against Carthage College at 1 p.m. in Kenosha, Wis. On Sunday, the Lynx will go down to Naperville, Ill. to take on North Central College at 1 p.m.
