MEMPHIS - Despite outshooting their opponent, 32-11, the Rhodes College women's soccer team could only find the back of the net once on Friday afternoon as they played to a 1-1 draw against Transylvania University.
After falling behind 1-0 on a 63rd minute goal by Charlotte Pruet, the Lynx got a huge goal from freshman
Christine Zachry as she blasted a shot from around 25 yards out for her first goal of her career.
The match would move into extra time where the Pioneers out shot the Lynx, 6-4, but senior
Chandler Kuhlman remained strong in goal as the match ended in a draw.
Rhodes was able to get 14 shots off in both the first and second half and controlled the ball in the Transylvania half of the field for the majority of the match. Freshman Sydnie Schindler led the offensive attack with five shots with two on target throughout hte afternoon. Senior
Shannon Donelson had a great match, adding four shots and setting up many opportunities for the Lynx. Sophomores
Hope Elliott and
Rachel Coyle each had three shots, respectively.
Kuhlman earned the draw in goal, picking up four saves in the match.
Rhodes moves to 3-2-1 in 2015 and will take Saturday off before returning to the Rhodes Soccer Complex on Sunday as they will take on Ohio Wesleyan University at 11 a.m. The Battling Bishops took down SAA rival Millsaps College earlier in the day in Memphis, 4-1. The Pioneers will meet the Majors on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
