Demorest, Georgia – The No. 6 Rhodes College Baseball program continued pool play in their South Regional run on Thursday, at Loudermilk Field against conference rival Birmingham-Southern College, falling to the Panthers, 3-2.
Rhodes finished their 2015 campaign with a 33-13 mark, tying their school record for most wins in a a season. Birmingham-Southern advances with a 36-11-1 record.
The Lynx got a couple things going quickly in the first with back to back hits from
Justin Genter and
Ryan Olive', before the Panthers stifled the early rally.
Blake Glauben then trotted out to the bump for the Lynx in the bottom half of the first. He worked out of a no out rally threat by BSC, allowing only one run.
The Lynx went scoreless in the top half of the second, while the Panthers were able to push another run across the board, before Glauben struck his way out of a baseball –loaded jam.
The third frame of the game saw zeros posted by both squads, as the Lynx were unable to score Genter from third in the top half of the fourth. The Lynx were held scoreless after threatening again in the fifth, as the game transitioned to the bottom half with the score remaining 2-0 BSC. Glauben worked through a scoreless fifth, and the sixth inning of the contest paralleled the fifth.
The Lynx Cats manufactured a run in the top half of the seventh, as
Justin Genter hit a sacrifice fly to bring in
Bennett Notestine. The Panthers matched the Lynx in the bottom frame, but the Lynx were not done fighting.
In the top half of the eighth, freshman
Levi Greenberg brilliantly battled his way to a pinch hit single, scoring Notestine again for a 3-2 score. The Panthers went scoreless in the bottom frame, as Glauben wheeled his way to a one-two-three inning. Unfortunately, the Lynx were unable to capitalize when they took their turn in the ninth, as BSC took the game, 3-2.

Jeff Cleanthes brilliant season finally came to an end today. The 2015 Rhodes baseball campaigns will be cemented in history as one of the program's most successful seasons. The team won their first ever Southern Athletic Association Conference Championship, led the country in earned run average for a number of weeks, and saw many players earn Conference accolades. From the men in between the lines to the back of the Lynx dugout, the Rhodes College community is extremely proud of this fine team of Lynx.
