MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Rhodes softball team downed the University of the Ozarks in double header action on Tuesday.
The Lynx improve to 11-19-1 in 2015, while the Eagles fall 12-21 on the year.
In the first contest, the Rhodes offense rocked the Eagles, posting a solid 12-0 victory.
Forrest Skelton got things going for the Lynx when she singled to center field to send in the first run in the second inning. In the same frame,
Aubrey Blackstock singled to the same spot bringing in Skelton for the early 2-0 lead.
A huge fourth inning really put the Lynx over the top, with 10 runs. Head coach
Luke Wagner's squad batted around in the inning, with Kirsten Samules starting things off with a double to left field that sent home Skelton. Christime Hume traded places with Samuels and score two on the next at bat when she hit a two-base knock to left center. The hit parade continued, as the Lynx added seven more runs to push out to a 12-0 lead.
The Lynx held the Eagles scoreless in the fifth, and Rhodes used the run-rule for the early five-inning exit with a final score of 12-0.
In the contest, Rhodes notched 16 hits, paced by
Erin Parker who went 3-for-3 at the dish.
Forrest Skelton went the distance in the circle, throwing all five innings in rout to her seventh win on the year. The senior tallied three strike outs in the game.
In the second matchup, the Lynx continued their offensive dominance picking up an 8-2 win.
Ozarks got on the board early, with one run in the first inning. However the Lynx weren't ready to give in, as they posted two first inning runs for the 2-1 lead. Rhodes tacked on another run in the third and fourth frames. Ozarks managed another single run in the fifth inning to make the count 4-2.
Rhodes continued to pack on the offensive production, with a pair of runs in the fifth inning, including a big Hume double to left center, and another solo run in the sixth inning for the 8-2 win.
Rhodes worked for 11 hits in the outing, again led by Parker who went 4-for-4 at the plate for a perfect 7-for-7 on the day.
Caroline Reilly got the start in six and one-third innings scattering four hits in rout to her third win on the season. Skelton came in for the final two outs, ending her impressive career with a strikeout.
Rhodes will be back in action on April 18 when they take on Sewanee in the final weekend of the regular season.
