BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The No. 14 Rhodes baseball team just missed against No. 6 Birmingham Southern College in Southern Athletic Association play on Sunday, 7-5
The Lynx fall to 24-11 in 2015, with an 11-6 mark in league play while the Panthers move to 26-7-1 on the season and 13-4-1 in conference action.
BSC tacked the first run on the board in the bottom of the third inning, and added another run in the fifth frame for the 2-0 lead. The Lynx offense got things moving in the sixth inning when they tied the contest at 2-2, after Bennett Notestein batted in
David Balaguer for the first run. It was savvy base-running that brought in
Jackson Lourie for the game tying run.
Rhodes posted the go ahead run in the top of eight, when
Ryan Olive scored on a wild pitch to take the 3-2 lead.
Andrew Wallis hit a bomb to right field to extend the cushion to 4-2 Lynx. A big five run eighth inning for the Panther made the count 7-4, and a Rhodes rally fell short, adding a single run in the ninth to make the final score 7-5.
Rhodes worked for 12 hits in the outing, with
Andrew Wallis and Notestine leading the way with three hits apiece, with Wallis hitting 3-for-3 on the day.
Jack Mercer got the start for the Lynx pitching staff, throwing six and two-thirds innings with three K's.
Rhodes will be back in action in the final regular season weekend when they host Millsaps College on April 18-19.
