No. 25 Rhodes completes sweep of Centre, 8-2

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The No. 25 Rhodes baseball team completed the series sweep of Centre College on Sunday to open Southern Athletic Association play, 8-2

The Lynx improve to 10-2 on the season and 3-0 in conference action, while the Colonels fall to 0-3 to start the year.

Rhodes got right to work despite the poor weather and tacked on a first inning run when Ryan Olive batted in Bill Munson. The Lynx added three more runs in the bottom of two, when a Munson double got things started and scored two in Bennett Notestine and Nathan Foshee.

Centre managed to get a run home in the fourth, but the Lynx added two more runs in the fifth frame. Head coach Jeff Cleanthes squad added two more runs in the eighth for good measure, and the Lynx wrapped up an 8-2 win.

The Lynx notched 15 hits in the win, with Munson leading the way with four hits in five at bats. The sophomore powered three doubles and picked up a stolen base in the outing. Notestein went 2-for-2 at the plate, while Foshee and Will Gietma each wracked up to hits apiece.

Adam Putnam got the start on the hill for the Lynx pitching staff, throwing six innings, striking out four. Thomas Beamish came in to throw 1 two-thirds innings, where he struck out one, and Josh Olejnik came in to close, throwing for an inning and a-third, also striking out one batter.

Rhodes will be back in action on March 6 when they head to Sewanee to continue conference play.
