Rhodes splits Sunday contest, 1-1

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Rhodes softball team split on Sunday, falling to DePauw University 13-7 and beating No. 21 ranked Washington University in St. Louis. 5-4
 
After the weekend's action, the Lynx are 1-3 on the young season.
 
In the first contest Rhodes fell by a margin of 13-7.
 
Rhodes rallied for eight hits in the contest, with five RBIs on the day. Emily Cerrito led the Lynx offense, where she went 3-3 on the day, including a double. Makenzie Martin notched two hits her self, going 2-4.
 
Caroline Reilly got the start for the Lynx, where she threw for 1 2/3 innings. Forrest Skelton came in for an inning and a third of work, before Cerrito finished out the four innings of the contest.
 
In the Lynx second matchup of the day, Rhodes went toe-to-toe with the No. 21 ranked Bears of Wash U.
 
The Lynx came out hot, scoring two runs in the first inning. A Martin single tacked on another run in the third when Christine Hume made her way home, and Pewitt added the Lynx fourth run when she singled to center field, scoring Erin Parker.
 
The Bears runs came in the top of the fourth when Janet Taylor hit a three run homer to make the count 4-3. Due to darkness the contest was called after five innings and the 4-3 score stood.
 
Rhodes had a balanced offensive attack with three Lynx notching two hits. Hume went 2-2, as did Parker, where each scored two runs. Martin also had two hits off three at bats.
 
Going the distance in the circle for the Lynx was Forrest Skelton, who threw all five innings. The senior threw three strikeouts and only allowed two hits.
 
The Lynx will be back in action on Feb. 14 when they take on Emory University and Lynchburg College in Atlanta, Ga.
