MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Rhodes women's basketball team fell in an emotional overtime battle against Millsaps College on Sunday to wrap up the regular season, 58-56.
The Lynx fall to 17-8 on the year and 8-6 in league play, while the Majors improve to 20-5 and 12-2 in conference action.
The Lynx were able to establish a four-point lead early in the contest after a
Dy'Nelle Todman layup at the 16:32 mark. The contest proved to be a tight battle as both teams took turns with the lead, and there were several ties throughout the first half.

Matt Dean's squad was able to regain the lead at the 7:43 mark when
Sarah Johnson knocked down a mid-range jumper to make the score 14-11. Down the stretch, the Lynx pulled out to a six-point advantage after a pair of
Blaire Smith buckets gave Rhodes a 26-20 edge. Beverly Holmes knocked down a trey in the final seconds to post a 26-23 halftime score.
At the midway point, the Lynx were led by Smith, who netted nine points and pulled down three rebounds. Todman and
Symone Daniels each added four points to the Rhodes totals. For the Majors, Velvet Johnson and Miah Brooks each tallied six points heading into the half. Millsaps shot 40.9 percent from the field in the opening period, with 50.0 percent from three-point range. Rhodes shot 44.0 percent from the floor.
In the second half, the back-and-forth action ensued, with the Lynx early lead erased. A pair of baskets from Todman, including a three, gave Rhodes a 35-30 lead by the 11:34 mark. By the 2:27 mark, the Majors had pushed out to a 48-42 lead.
Rhodes, determined to claw their way back, used a 7-1 run down the stretch, featuring a clutch Todman three, to knot the contest at 49-49. Neither team could score in the final 17 seconds, forcing extra time to determine a winner.
After winning the overtime tip, the Lynx pulled out to a three point lead at 52-49 after a Smith lay in and Goodrum free throw. The Rhodes three-point lead stood till 43 second left to play, when a pair of buckets from the Majors, a Johnson layup and Holmes three, gave Millsaps the 58-56 advantage, and eventual win.
Rhodes was led by Todman, who netted 14 points and pulled in five rebounds. Smith tallied 13 points, with Daniels chipping in 12 points and nine rebounds. Johnson also worked into double figures with 10 points and three assists.
On the Majors side, Brooks led all scorers with 16 points, with Johnson adding 15. Holmes netted 11 in the outing with Kala Freeman finishing with 10.
Rhodes will be back in action on Feb. 27 when they head to Jackson, Miss. for the opening round of the SAA Conference Tournament.
