LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The Rhodes College held their opponent to under 35% shooting, holding the Covenant Scots to 13 points in the first half en rout to a 58-48 road win on Saturday afternoon.
The Lynx shot 19-for-46 (41.3%) from the field and 4-for-12 (33.3%) from behind the arch. The Rhodes defense forced 19 turnovers on the afternoon and held Covenant to 17-for-49 (34.7%) from the field and 8-for-25 (25%) from three. The Lynx outrebounded the Scots, 37-30.
After a 2-0 lead, Rhodes went on an 18-2 run to take complete control throughout the first 15 minutes of the first half. Junior
Daniel Galvin and sophomore
Keyshawn Butts had four points each throughout the run.
Butts would go on to finish with eight points in the half while Galvin added six as the Lynx held a 25-13 lead going into the break.
Rhodes would take control of the first five minutes of the second half, moving their lead out to 38-19, their largest lead of the game. However, Covenant would take the next five minutes to go on a 24-9 run and cut the deficit down to 47-43 late in the contest.
Junior
Brennan Sullivan would score the next eight points while juniors
Aquil Muhammad and
Tyler Gee added free throws to close the game out and give Rhodes a huge win on the road.
Sullivan led the Lynx with 16 points including 3-for-5 from deep. Gee and Muhammad each added 11 points with Gee pulling down six boards and earning four steals. Butts had nine points and eight boards while Galvin had eight points and seven boards. Junior
JJ Weir led the way with three assists on the afternoon. Ben Phelps led Convenat off the bench with 15 points including three three pointers.
The Lynx move to 4-2 on the young and will take the next weekend off. They return to action on December 19th, at home, for the Rhodes Christmas Tournament. The Lynx take on MacMurry with tipoff set for 6 p.m.
