Women's Soccer Falls Short to Centre in SAA Championship Game

DANVILLE, Ky. - Despite a brilliant effort from senior Chandler Kuhlman and the Rhodes College defense, the Lynx fell just short on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 1-0 contest to the Centre College Colonels in the Southern Athletic Association Women's Soccer Championship Game.

For the Lynx, their season concludes at 11-6-2 while finished with a 5-2 record in SAA play. For the 10th-ranked Colonels, they move to 17-1-1 overall and earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Championship, beginning next weekend.

Rhodes got off to a fast start, getting a couple of looks offensively on the tough Centre defense. However, the Colonels got their offense rolling and would go on to out shoot the Lynx, 9-3, in the first half. The Rhodes defense with the like of senior Addie Fargason, junior Kelsey Sweeney, sophomore Sarah Rostamo, sophomore Ellie Valega, and freshman Christine Zachry, were terrific along with Kuhlman to keep the game scoreless through one.

Centre really turned it in the second half, earning an 11-1 advantage in shots, but the defense would stay strong while Kuhlman made some terrific saves for Rhodes.

In the 87th minute, SAA Offensive Player of the Year Destinie Graves of Centre found a crease and was able to sneak one by Kuhlman to give the Colonels the lead late in the contest. Rhodes scrambled to find an equalizer late in the contest, but to no avail, falling just short to the Colonels.

Kuhlman would finish with eight saves in the contest while senior Shannon Donelson led the offensive effort with two shots. Juniors Sarah Wachter and Elise Grisoni each added a shot a piece.

Rhodes will move into the offseason as they will train their upperclassmen and look to bring in new recruits for the 2016 season. However, they do say goodbye to seven seniors in 2015 and appreciate their dedication and work the last four years.
