Men's Soccer Surrenders Late Goal; Loses Heartbreak to Sewanee

JACKSON, Miss. - The Rhodes College men's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker on Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the Southern Athletic Association Championship to rival Sewanee. The Tigers scored in the 87th minute with less than three minutes on the clock to punch their ticket to the Championship Game and give the Lynx a heartbreaking end to their 2015 season.

Rhodes concludes their season at 7-6-4 overall despite a great effort throughout the season.

The Lynx were in control for a majority of the match, outshooting the Tigers 16-10 throughout the contest, including an 8-3 advantage in the first half. The two teams would go into the break scoreless despite Rhodes holding a 5-3 lead in corner kicks.

The second half was more even as Sewanee began to create some opportunities. The Lynx still outshot the Tigers, 8-7, and would also hold a 4-2 advantage in corners. However, Sewanee would break through off the foot of Ramsey Seagle and the assist from Chris Haberstroh.

The Lynx scrambled to find an equalizer, but did not have enough time on the clock, falling short.

Freshman Austin Ly led the offensive output with seven shots on the day while sophomore Matt McKeand added five shots in the contest. Defensively, senior goalkeeper RIley Sheen had two saves in the contest.

Rhodes moves into the offseason and will look to build off a successful campaign in 2015. As the Lynx move forward, they also say goodbye to five seniors and thank them for their efforts the last four years.
