Field Hockey's Season Comes to a Close with Loss to #2 TCNJ

EWING, N.J. - The Rhodes College field hockey season saw their outstanding 2015 season come to a close with a 3-0 loss to second-ranked College of New Jersey on Saturday afternoon. The Lions used a pair of first half goals to take control and pull away for a 3-0 win over the Lynx.

Rhodes concludes their season with a 16-6 record including a conference championship and their first ever NCAA postseason win over DePauw earlier this week.

The Lions scored a pair of goals throughout a five minute span midway through the first half as Jaclyn Douglas and Elizabeth Morrison gave TCNJ a 2-0 lead. The Lynx tried to establish some offense, but the tough TCNJ defense stifled Rhodes throughout the fist half.

The Lions made it 3-0 as Morrison scored again in the second half. Rhodes would look to respond, getting off four shots in the half and slowing down the powerful offense of TCNJ, but ultimately could not get anything rolling as they bowed out of the tournament.

Sophomore goalkeeper Laura Eckelkamp was outstanding, finishing with 15 saves in the contest, while senior Jordan Kugler had an excellent day on the defensive side, playing in her home state. Sophomore Lauren Travis provided a great spark off the bench while senior Mary Rose Hazel was excellent in the middle.

Junior Kennedy Brislin got two shots off while senior Alex Friedman and junior Christina DiFelice each added a shot.

The Lynx will move into the offseason as they look ahead to 2016. Rhodes field hockey does say goodbye to six outstanding seniors, who proved to be a huge part to the Lynx program. The Lynx thank this group for the last four years.
