DANVILLE, Ky. - Freshman Davis Neitzschman scored in the 93rd minute in overtime to lift the Rhodes College women's soccer team to their first Southern Athletic Association win of the year, defeating Centre College on the road, 1-0.
For Neitzschman, in only his first season, he now has six goals on the season, which leads the team, including his second game winner today.
In an evenly played contest, Centre and Rhodes were scoreless throughout regulation with the Colonels holding a 9-7 advantage over the Lynx in shots. Centre also held a slight 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
The Lynx were a little off target most of the day as only one of their seven shots was on target. However, it was the most important shot to be on target as it was Neitzschman game winner in extra time.
Sophomore
Matt McKeand led the Lynx attack with three shots while Neitzschman and senior
Paul Burdette each added two shots on target. The Rhodes defense was excellent all day long, led by senior
Will Porter, freshman
George Winfrey, freshman
Joel Sabio, freshman
Richard Lucarelli, and sophomore
Spencer Reaves. Senior goalkeeper
Riley Sheen was great in goal as well, finished with four saves in the contest.
Rhodes moves to 5-4-3 overall and 1-1-2 in SAA play. They will return home on Friday as they take on Oglethorpe University in a conference matchup. The soccer squads will celebrate Parent's Weekend with the men's match scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
