CONWAY, Ark. –
Luke Collins led the Rhodes men's basketball team with a career-high 24-points, picking up a 73-57 win over Hendrix College to remain unbeaten in Southern Athletic Association play.
The Lynx improve to 11-3 on the year and keep an untarnished 4-0 record in league play while the Warriors fall to 6-9 on the season and 1-3 in conference play.
The contest started with two ties and six lead changes before a seven point Lynx run gave head coach
Mike DeGeorge's squad a 15-8 advantage by the 12:31 mark, fueled by a pair of layups from
Ryan Van Hoeck and Collins, and a Collins trey.
Keyshawn Butts knocked down a deep three, following it up with a lay-in with 7:34 to play, giving the Lynx a 26-17 lead. Rhodes continued to maintain its distance, and with a
Tate Sledge layup with 2:11 to play established its first double-digit lead at 33-23. A Collins bucket to end the half gave the Lynx a 35-25 lead heading into the break.
At the half, Collins led all scorers with 11 points, shooting 4-4 from the field. Butts chipped in five points with Sledge and
Drew Miller each netting four points each. For the Warriors, Luke Vance and John Ogle each notched six points.
Hendrix posted 40.0 percent shooting from the field in the opening half, while the Lynx shot 40.7 percent from the floor.
In the second half the Lynx kept up the pressure, extending their lead to 43-30 after a bucket from Collins and Van Hoeck at the 16:20 mark. The Lynx continued to have an answer for the Warriors, with every Hendrix run followed by a Rhodes reply.
Miller connected from behind the arc and
Brennan Sullivan notched a jumper to give the Lynx a 57-42 lead with 6:50 to play. With an 11-2 run to close the contest, the Lynx brought home the 73-57 win.
Collins led all scorers with 24 points, shooting 6-8 from the field and 11-11 from the free throw line, and dished out four assists. Miller and Van Hoeck each netted 12 points in the outing, with Sullivan adding eight and
Geoff Livsey and Butts each chipping in five.
The Warriors were led by Gumm who notched 13 points, and Drew Nikolovski scored 11 points. Vance added eight points and 13 rebounds in the outing.
Rhodes shot 40.4 percent from the field in the contest, with 36.4 percent from beyond the arc. The Lynx counter parts shot 36.5 percent and a mere 29.6 percent from three. The Lynx forced 15 turnovers, which they turned into 13 points and outscored Hendrix in the paint by a count of 28-20
Rhodes will return to action on Jan. 23 when they host Centre College at 8 p.m.
