Rhodes overpowers Fontbonne, 2-1

Box Score CONWAY, Ark. – The Rhodes men's soccer team picked up a win on Sunday over Fontbonne University, 2-1.
 
The win advances the Lynx to 2-2-1 on the year while the Griffins fall to 1-5 on the season.
 
Fontbonne opened the scoring in the 11th minute, when Aaron Pavese headed in a Tim Varnum corner kick. The 1-0 score would stand through the remainder of the half.
 
In the 67th minute Paul Burdette ended the scoring silence for the Lynx, heading in a Jason Crutch pass off a corner kick opportunity.
 
The Lynx scored the goal ahead goal just two minutes later when Jason Crutcher found the back of the net, converting a Tyler Beasom set up to give Rhodes the 2-1 lead, and eventual win.
 
Riley Sheen was in goal for the Lynx for all 90 minutes of the contest, where he grabbed two saves in the outing.
 
Rhodes outshot the Griffins by a tally of 27-6, and took more corner opportunities by a count of 9-6.
 
Three Lynx were named to the Hendrix Invitational All-Tournament Team, in Matt McKeand, Jason Crutcher and Paul Burdette.
 
Rhodes will be back on the pitch on Sept. 18 at cross-town rivals Christian Brothers University for a 7 p.m. kick off.
