Rhodes drops pair in Hendrix Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CONWAY, Ark. - The Rhodes volleyball team dropped consecutive matches on Saturday to Philander Smith College and Austin College at the Hendrix College invitational.
 
The losses put the Lynx at 4-7 on the year, while Philander Smith moves to 6-9 and Austin improves to 12-3 on the year.
 
The Lynx started the day against the Panthers of Philander Smith, in which they fell to the scores of 22-25 25-19 16-25 25-22 8-15.  
 
Offensively the Lynx were paced by freshman outside hitter Elasha Williams with 14 kills and junior middle blocker Lauren Johnson with 10.  
 
First-year setter Caryn Hawkins dished out 38 assist and chipped in five digs.  
 
Senior libero Maraia Tremarelli led the Lynx with 14 digs while junior defensive specialist Dani Plata added 11.
 
For the second match of the day the Lynx were matched up against the Roo's of Austin College and dropped a tough fought match to the scores 20-25 20-25 18-25.  
 
Williams continued to lead the charge for the Lynx with 15 kills and six digs.  Sophomore outside hitter Catherine Grimes had her best campaign of the 2014 season with five kills on eight swings with only one error for a .500 attacking percentage.  
 
Dressed as the libero for the entire match Plata led the way defensively with eight digs.  
 
The Lynx continue their conference play next weekend as they travel on Sept. 20-21 to play Sewanee: The University of the South and Centre College respectively.
