DEMOREST, Ga. – The Rhodes baseball team's 2014 post season run came to a close on Friday as the Lynx fell to Emory College, 4-3.
The Lynx finish the 2014 campaign with an overall record of 33-17 while the Eagles boast a record of 31-11 and continue in NCAA play.
Rhodes worked to get ahead early, posting a run in the first inning when
Will Gietema singled through the left side, scoring
Bill Munson.
The Eagles knotted things up in the third inning when a sacrifice fly scored a single run. The Eagles took the lead in the fourth inning after a single advanced Brett Lake, and he found his way home on an outfield error. Emory extended the gap in the seventh inning, with a Wes Peacock double making the count 3-1.
The Lynx cut away at the lead in the seventh inning, posting two runs, first when
Josh Goodwin scored followed by a
Ryan Olive sacrifice fly that sent home
Josh Keen. With the two runs, the Lynx tied the contest at 3-3.
Emory was able to get the game deciding run on the board in the eighth inning when in a bases loaded situation, the Lynx worked for a double play, but the Eagle snuck in a run to take the lead. That score would stand and the Lynx would fall, 4-3.
Daniel Morris started on the hill for the Lynx, hurling for six and two thirds innings where he struck out one batter and only allowed seven hits.
Max Halasz, a mainstay for the Lynx came in to relieve throwing for two and one third innings.
The Lynx wrap up a historic season, where they earned the school's first NCAA Division III Regional tournament berth.
