ROME, Ga. – The Rhodes women's lacrosse team ended its inaugural season against Berry College in the first round of the SAA tournament, falling 13-10.
The Lynx finish their season with an impressive 8-4 record with a 4-3 in league play. The Vikings live to see another game and carry on with a record of 9-6 and a 4-3 conference mark.
Berry opened the contest in control, with four straight scores before
Andrea Lombardi broke the streak with an unassisted goal.
Jenny Bitzer followed pulling to 4-2 with 10: 25 to play in the opening half.
Tori Van Heyst connected off a
Lindsay Gess pass to notch the final first half goal for the Lynx. After seven Viking goals, the Lynx went into the halftime break trailing 7-3.
Rhodes went to work in the second half, with
Ashley Dill connecting on a free position shot to open the half. Van Heyst followed suit, notching her second goal before Dill capitalized on another opportunity and cut the deficit to 7-6. The Lynx worked towards their first lead when Dill got a hat-trick and the 9-8 lead with 14:29 to play.
Kristan Dziurynski caught fire and scored the final five goals for the Vikings, pushing Berry ahead for the win 13-10.
Sarah Daniels was in the cage for all 60 minutes of the contest where she grabbed seven saves.
Rhodes forced 17 Berry turnovers, with only 13 themselves. The Lynx were edged in the draw control column by a count of 14-11 while the Lynx outshot their counterparts 24-23.
Rhodes closes its season with eight wins, an impressive mark for a first year squad.
