CONWAY, Ark. – The Rhodes softball team completed the sweep of Hendrix College on Saturday, 5-1 and 10-4 in Southern Athletic Association play.
The Lynx improve their record to 26-12 and 11-9 in conference play while the Warriors fall to 15-20 and 8-13 in the SAA.
In the first game, the Lynx notched a 5-1 win off 11 hits to the Warriors three. A big fourth inning got Rhodes on the board, with a
Jessica Brown double that scored
Christine Hume, followed by a
Rachel Pewitt double that brought Brown home.
Rhodes added to its lead in the sixth, when
Aubrey Blackstock singled to center field, scoring
Courtney Williams. Hendrix scored its lone run in the sixth inning, with the Lynx adding insurance runs in the seventh with a Hume single and a Brown sacrifice fly, making the final count 5-1.
Pitching for the win was
Forrest Skelton, who threw five innings, striking out three and only giving up one hit.
Emily Cerrito threw the final two innings, earning the save and striking out one batter.
In the second contest, the Lynx needed extra innings to bypass the Warriors, overpowering Hendrix with a six run ninth inning to take the game 10-4.
The Lynx notched 18 hits in the contest, led by four hits from Williams including a home run and a double.
Erin Parker and Pewitt each added three hits, while
Makenzie Martin nocking a triple and Hunt notching a double.
Chloe Hundman was in the circle for the Lynx, where she went the distance, throwing nine innings. She fanned two batters while on the rubber, and only gave up six hits.
The Lynx will look to the conference tournament, held in Conway, Ark. on April 25.
