CONWAY, Ark. – Rhodes softball posted two strong wins against Hendrix College on Friday, 9-2 and 8-3 in Southern Athletic Association play.
The Lynx improve their record to 24-12 and 9-9 in league play, while the Warriors fall to 15-18 and 8-11 in the SAA.
Rhodes went right to work, posting two runs in the first inning when
Rachel Pewitt singled to right field sending home
Courtney Williams and Jess Brown. Pewitt added another RBI in the sixth inning when she got the Lynx started again when she scored Brown.
Danielle Smith singled to score Pewitt and give the Lynx their fourth run.
Amber Hunt hit a three-run home run in the sixth to put the Lynx up 7-0. Hendrix added their two runs in the bottom of the inning before the Lynx added their final run in the seventh when a MaKenzie Martin single scored two in Williams and Brown.
Rhodes notched 14 hits in the win, while the Warriors worked for six.
Forrest Skelton earned her 17th win of the season throwing a complete seven innings and pitching one strikeout.
In the second contest, Rhodes continued to work on the offensive side, posting 14 hits to their counterparts seven.
Rhodes saw the Warriors post two runs in the third, answering with a three run fourth. Smith doubled to left center, scoring three to pull ahead 3-2. Rhodes added another run in the fifth when a Brown double scored
Christine Hume. The Lynx padded their lead, adding a run in the sixth inning and three in the seventh to take home an 8-3 lead.
Emily Cerrito got the start in the circle, throwing for three and two thirds innings. Skelton came in to close the final three and a third inning, racking up two K's.
The Lynx will wrap up the regular season tomorrow as they finish their series with Hendrix on April 19 with the first pitch set to be thrown out at 1 p.m.
