MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Rhodes' explosive offense lifted the Lynx past Sewanee in two games on Saturday, 16-1 and18-0 in Southern Athletic Association play.
The Lynx improved to 20-12 on the year and 5-9 in the SAA, while the Tigers fall to 3-21 and 0-16 in league play.
Rhodes opened the first contest with a nine run first inning, featuring doubles from
Courtney Williams,
Christine Hume and
Jessica Brown. In the second inning
Amber Hunt hit a two run bomb to lift the Lynx up 11-0. Rhodes added on a few more runs in the fourth and five in the fifth before closing out the game 16-1.
Forrest Skelton got the start for the Lynx, and went three innings recording six strikeouts while allowing only one walk in the win.
Aubrey Blackstock came in for the remaining two innings, throwing for two K's in her time in the circle.
The Lynx powered 15 hits in the win, led by three from
Danielle Smith.
In the second matchup the Lynx were dominant once again. In the first inning, the Rhodes pushed ahead to an 11-0 lead, with a pair of two-run home runs, first from
Allycia Kleine and then off the bat of
Courtney Williams. The Lynx tacked on another run in the second, and saw a solo home run from
Jessica Brown in the third.
A four run fourth inning capped off the win for the Lynx, as they posted an 18-0 win.
Skelton got her second start and second win of the day, throwing for three complete innings. In her time on the rubber, the junior struck out five batters and didn't allow any walks.
Emily Cerrito came in in the fourth and threw the remaining two innings, dishing out two K's.
Rhodes will wrap up its home season on Sunday, April 13 as they finish up their series with Sewanee. The Lynx will honor their senior members in a ceremony held prior to the first pitch at noon.
