MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Rhodes softball squad posted two non-conference wins against Talladega College on Thursday, downing the Tornadoes 2-1 and 5-3.
Rhodes improves to 18-12 on the season and the Tornadoes fall to 27-15 on the year.
In the first game, the Lynx downed Talladega 2-1, aided by a
Courtney Williams solo home run in the fifth inning and a
Rachel Pewitt single down the left field line that sent home
Christine Hume for the walk off win.
Forrest Skelton got the start and the win for Rhodes, throwing a complete seven innings with nine strikeouts and only one walk.
In the second contest, The Lynx used solid base running to overcome the Tornadoes 5-3. Talladega scored first, with a run in the third and two runs added in the fouth inning.
Jessica Brown got Rhodes started with a solo home run in the fourth inning, followed by a
Danielle Smith single that scored
Aubrey Blackstock. A
Makenzie Martin single in the same inning sent home Smith and Blackstock to make the score 4-3.
The Lynx added an insurance run in the sixth when Pewitt found her way home on a passed ball to make the final count 5-3.
Skelton added another win to her tally, throwing all seven innings with five strikeouts and zero walks allowed.
Rhodes will wrap up their home season this weekend as the Lynx play host to Sewanee on April 12-13. The games are set to start at noon each day, with a special senior day ceremony that will be held prior to the first pitch on Sunday.
