MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Rhodes softball fell to Berry College in two contests on Saturday, 7-3 and 7-6.
Rhodes moves to 12-8 on the season and 1-5 in the SAA while the Vikings move to 12-4 and 2-0 in league play.
In the first contest, Rhodes began with
Chloe Hundman in the circle. She threw for five innings, with two strikeouts and only one walk.
Forrest Skelton came in to finish the contest, throwing three K's in her two innings pitched.
The Lynx posted seven hits in the outing, including two hits from
Erin Parker and a one run bomb from
Allycia Kleine.
Rhodes got its first run in the bottom of the first when Parker stole second base and scored on a fielding error. The next at nbat the Lynx took the 2-1 lead after Kleine knocked one out of the park over the right field fence. The Vikings went on a scoring spree, posting six runs over the next four innings.
The Lynx' rally fell short in the seventh inning, when Hunt scored on a throwing error to make the final count 7-3.
In the second contest Skelton started on the rubber for the Lynx, where she went nine innings giving up seven runs, all earned, on 13 hits.
The Vikings went to work right away, scoring two runs in the second inning, including a home run from Abby Daniels and a double from Kenzie Fleming that scored Shelby Smith.
The Lynx offense struggled to string together hits, stranding five runners on base. But a
Jessica Brown three run homer over the right field fence turned things around and gave the Lynx the 3-2 advantage in the fifth inning.
In the next inning, the Vikings had an answer as Smith knocked out a two run homer, regaining the lead at 4-3. Berry tacked on another pair of runs to end the inning with a 6-3 lead.
Rhodes used a pair of runs off a Parker double in the sixth to close the Berry lead to 6-5. In the seventh, the Lynx finished their rally with a Williams double, scoring Brown, to tie the game at 6-6 and send it to extra innings.
Berry grabbed the advantage in the ninth inning with a walk and a pair of singles, giving them the 7-6 lead. The Lynx were unable to rally in the bottom of the ninth, falling to Berry 7-6.
Rhodes will be back in action tomorrow against Berry in a pair of games starting at 12 p.m.
