LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Rhodes softball squad posted a pair of dominant wins over Occidental College, 4-0 and 12-2 on Saturday.
Rhodes moves to 2-2 on the young season while the Tiger's move to 0-4.
"I'm really pleased with the way the girls came out today and played with a greater sense of urgency and focus," said head coach
Luke Wagner. "Offensively we had a much more productive day at the plate, especially
Allycia Kleine, who continued to be red hot on the trip. Kleine hit another homerun and was nearly impossible for opposing pitchers to retire."
In game one, Rhodes scored one run in the first inning when
Jessica Brown doubled, scoring
Erin Parker. The Lynx tacked on two more runs in the second, after a
Rachel Pewitt double and added their final score in the sixth inning when
Amber Hunt stole home.
Forrest Skelton started the day in the circle for the Lynx, hurling seven innings, fanning nine batters and not walking any batters. Skelton earned the win for the Lynx, and moves to 1-1 on the season.
In the second game the Lynx' bats exploded as they posted 12 runs over Occidental. Rhodes smacked 13 hits in the outing, with
Courtney Williams posting three hits, and two hits coming from Parker,
Danielle Smith, Brown and
Christine Hume each.
Chloe Hundman pitched the second contest for Coach Wagner, throwing for five innings. Hundman struck out two batters, while only walking three and only gave up four hits.
"Defensively I was happy to see the team play near mistake free softball on the weekend. Ladies were talking, thinking ahead and making solid decisions resulting in outscoring Oxy 16-3 over the course of two games," Wagner said "Skelton and Hundman both earned wins on the day and made outstanding adjustments from day one to day two. Both Pitchers were dominant today."
The Lynx will return home for their next contests as they get set to face off against DePauw University and Maryville College on Feb. 15 in a tri-match. The first pitch is set to take place at 10 a.m.
