MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Rhodes women's lacrosse team dropped its first home match to Sewanee on Saturday, 15-4 in Southern Athletic Association action.
The Lynx fall to 1-2 on the season and 0-2 in league play while the Tigers advance to 2-0 to start their season, with a 1-0 start to conference play.
Rhodes saw the Tigers start play with a flurry of scoring, with Sewanee netting four unanswered goals.
Tori Van Heyst found her way through the tough Tiger defense to put up the first Lynx goal, and make the count 4-1 with 21:29 to play in the half. It was all Tigers for the reminder of the half, as Sewanee posted another four goals to end the period, and take a 8-1 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Lynx proved to be more active, scoring three goals.
Emily Clark grabbed an unassisted score in the first five minutes of the half to make the count 9-2. Five minutes later,
Emily Teague found the back of the net to post a 10-3 count. The final Lynx goal came from the stick of
Lindsay Gess as she netted a goal at the 15:23 mark to make the score 12-4. The Tigers scored the final three goals of the half to make the final count 15-4.
Sarah Daniels was the Lynx net minder for all 60 minutes of play. Daniels grabbed 14 saves while in goal for Rhodes.
Rhodes took 11 shots in the contest to the Tigers 29. The Lynx kept the ground ball count close, narrowly missing by a margin of 35-32.
The Lynx will return to the field on March 1 as they travel to take on SAA foe Birmingham-Southern College.
