MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Rhodes softball finished 2-0 on Saturday defeating Transylvania University twice, 9-0 and 7-5.
Â
The Lynx conclude the day with a 7-3 overall record, while the Pioneers move to 0-2.
Â
Rhodes pitcher
Forrest Skelton pitched the entirety of both games this Saturday, since fellow pitcher
Chloe Hundman was sidelined with an injury earlier this week. Skelton opened the first game of the series by pitching her first collegiate no hitter. She tallied 23 strikeouts on the day.
Â
The lead off batter for the Lynx,
Erin Parker, got on base with a slap to left field. Parker, who set the single season stolen base record last season, quickly stole second. The designated hitter, Jess Brown, would advance her to third placing her in prime position to capitalize on a Transylvania passed ball to close the inning with the Lynx on top 1-0.
Â
Senior captain
Courtney Williams opened the second inning with a double and was quickly brought home by a hit from Allycia Klein. A Pioneer mistake advanced Klein to third and put Mackenzie Martin on base. A single up the center from
Amber Hunt comfortably scored Klein and Martin. A sacrifice bunt from Parker would advance Hunt to third where a double from Hume would bring her home. The Lynx would close the inning 5-0.
Â
The Lynx continued to tally runs in the bottom of the third bringing the score to 8-0. The final score of the game would come in the fourth when Williams scored Hume from third. The Lynx would end the contest in five innings with a final score of 9-0.
Â
In the second game of the day versus the Pioneers, the Lynx immediately went to work. Williams scored the first runs of the game bringing home Parker and Pewitt. The Pioneers responded in the top of the second with a homerun, but the Lynx would score three more runs in the inning off the bats of Hume and Brown and an additional run in the fourth to comfortably maintain the lead, 6-1.
Â
Making the game interesting, the Pioneers put two more runs on the board in the fifth to which Pewitt answered with a solo homerun over the left field fence, 7-3. The Pioneers would score two more runs in the seventh but to no avail, the Lynx held on for the win 7-5.
Â
Rhodes will be back in action tomorrow, Feb. 23 for the final games against Transy, with the first pitch set to be thrown out at 10 a.m.
