Memphis, Tenn. - Rhodes softball finished 2-0 on Sunday defeating DePauw University 3-0 and Maryville College 4-1.
The Lynx conclude the weekend with a 5-3 overall record, while the Tigers move to 3-1 and the Scots to 0-8.
In the first game of the day, the Lynx saw Maryville score first when Kelci Swafford scored on a base hit by Kalyn Jones in the top of the second inning. The Lynx quickly responded by scoring two runs in the second inning. The first run came when
Allycia Kleine connected with the ball, comfortably bringing
Rachel Pewitt in from third. Rhodes second run came minutes later when
Danielle Smith brought
Courtney Williams safely home closing the inning with the Lynx on top, 2-1.
The Scots would remain scoreless for the rest of the game. The Lynx however, continued to tally runs, with
Amber Hunt's homerun in the bottom of the fourth and Kleine earning her second RBI of the game scoring
Jessica Brown to make the final tally, 4-1.
Chloe Hundman pitched the first six innings before
Forrest Skelton finished out the contest with three consecutive strikeouts.
In the Lynx' second game of the day against the Tigers of DePauw University, Lynx pitcher
Forrest Skelton, opened the game in her usual fashion striking out the first Tiger batter. Williams opened the bottom of the second inning for the Lynx with a base hit that would later position her to score the first run of the game when she capitalized on an error by the DePauw first baseman.
Jess Brown hit her second homerun of the weekend in the bottom of the third, burying the ball over the left field fence, bringing the count to 2-0. Continuing to contribute in the fifth, Brown scored
Christine Hume from second with a hit up the middle to bring Rhodes to 3-0.
Forrest Skelton posted six strikeouts on the game helping to secure the win. The Lynx would hold the Tigers scoreless for the entirety of the game.
Rhodes Softball looks to their upcoming contest against Transylvania University on Feb. 22. The first pitch is set to be thrown out at 12 p.m.
