Rhodes misses in SAA Championship, falling to Centre 2-1

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Rhodes women's soccer team fell in the Southern Athletic Association Conference Tournament Championship to Centre College, 2-1.

The Lynx fall to 15-5-1 on the season while the Colonels improve to 12-5-2 on the year.

The Lynx fell behind in the 25th minute, when Destinie Graves headed in a cross to give Centre the early 1-0 lead. The contest proved to be a battle as neither team would score through the rest of the opening half.

The Rhodes defense continued to battle the Colonels, but the Lynx saw Centre post another score in the 49th minute, again from Graves.

The Lynx rallied and had an answer just six minutes later when Hannah Selner broke the Rhodes scoring silence in the 55th minute, burying a corner kick to cut the Lynx deficit to 2-1. Rhodes continued to rally, firing off several threating shots, although to no avail.

The Lynx couldn't produce another goal, falling to Centre 2-1.

First-year Anna Maldonado got the start for the Lynx, playing all 90 minutes in goal and grabbing an impressive 13 saves in the contest.

Rhodes was outshot by their counter parts by a count of 24-7, and was also edged in the corner kick category by a tally of 5-3.

The Lynx had two players named to the SAA All-Tournament team, with Breanna Durbin and Hannah Selner taking the honors.
