Rhodes narrowly misses in conference tournament, falling to Berry 1-0

CONWAY, Ark. – In the first round of the Southern Athletic Association Conference Tournament, the Rhodes men's soccer team fell in a tight contest to Berry College, 1-0.
 
The Lynx finish out the 2014 season with a record of 6-8-3 and 3-2-2 in league play. The Vikings advance to the second round of the SAA tournament to play Millsaps College with a record of 10-6-1 and 3-3-1 in league play.
 
The Lynx held strong defensively in the contest, denying any Berry attack in the opening half. Rhodes held the opponents to only four first half shots, while firing off five. The first half ended in a 0-0 draw.
 
In the second half the stalemate continued, with the Lynx notching four shots. The Rhodes defense held strong until the 80th minute, when Zak Wallingford snuck a shot past the Rhodes net minder to take a 1-0 lead. The Lynx couldn't piece together a rally, falling short 1-0.
 
Rhodes Riley Sheen was strong in goal for the Lynx, playing all 90 minutes and snagging two saves in the outing.
 
Rhodes was outshot by the Vikings by a total of 14-9, while each team was awarded three corner kick attempts in the contest.
