MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Rhodes women's basketball coach
Matt Dean sent a jersey worn by
Lauren Avant (Memphis, TN) to the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame to be displayed in that organization's "Ring of Honor."
The "Ring of Honor" is one of the most-popular exhibits at the facility in Knoxville, Tenn. It provides a colorful backdrop to the facility archives and is used to "honor the past, celebrate the present and promote the future of women's basketball." Over 100 jerseys from high school and college All-Americans currently hang in the hall.
Avant led the Lynx to a 25-4 finish for the 2013-2014 campaign, tying a school record for best season record and most wins in a season. The Memphis, Tenn. native finished the season with a 25.6 points per game average, 7.3 rebounds per game, and 2.7 assists per contest. She also set single season records for points in a season (692), free throws made (180), points per game average (25.6), and became the newest member of the Rhodes 1,000 point club, finishing at No. 5 on the list with 1,373 total points.
In 2013-14 Avant was also named SAA Player-of-the-Year, All-South Region Player-of the-Year, First Team All 2014 WBCA Division III Coaches' All-America and a top three finalist for the WBCA Player-of-the-Year.
