Rhodes falls short in overtime battle to Centre, 3-2

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Rhodes field hockey fell just short to conference foe's Centre in overtime by a score of 3-2 Sunday in Southern Athletic Association action.

The Lynx (1-5) are now 1-1 in conference play while the Colonels move to 6-0 and stay unscathed in conference play, 2-0.

Rhodes fell behind at the ten minute mark when Centre's Alicia Kalbfleisch scored an unassisted goal.

The Lynx tied the score up at 1-1 with a goal by Kate Taylor from a Kat Simpson assist at the 34 minute mark just before the end of the half.

Rhodes opened the second half of action with a goal from the stick of Simpson with a McKenna Wilson set-up pass.

Centre knotted up the contest at two a piece with a Nicole Deherde goal just two minutes later.   

Rhodes couldn't stop a goal by Centre's Erin Mays in the opening minute of the overtime period, making the final score 3-2.

The Lynx were outshot by a slim margin of 15-13 but earned more corners by a tally of 13-10.

Kelly Whelan saw 70 minutes of action grabbing five saves in her time in the net. Erin Bailey was the Lynx net minder in overtime action.

Rhodes will hit the road for their next six matches. Their first stop will be at Hendrix College on Sept. 21 at 1 p.m.
