The visiting Birmingham Southern Panthers scored 1 run in the top of the 1st inning to take a quick 1-0 lead. It would take till the 3rd inning for Rhodes to respond when
Danielle Smith doubled to right center and was later scored on a 2-out double from
Erin Parker to tie the game at 1's. The score would remain deadlocked until the bottom of the 10th when Rhodes led off the inning by placing
Rachel Pewitt on second base as the international tie breaker was enacted. With Pewitt on second, pinch hitter
Desiree Buie strolled to the plate and promptly drove a ball back up the middle for the game winning walk-off single. The win pushed Rhodes' win streak to 10 games and moved them to 15-5 in SAA play.
In the second game of the afternoon, Rhodes would score 2 early before the BSC bats would come alive. The Panther's lineup would combine to account for 10 runs off 13 hits over 7 innings. Meanwhile, the Lynx were held to just 3 runs off 10 hits over the course of the ball game. The offensive bright spot for Rhodes in game 2 was junior catcher
Courtney Williams who went 3-3 with 2 runs scored and an RBI off her 8th homerun of the season. The loss snapped Rhodes' recent win streak and moved their record to 22-13, 15-6 in SAA play, and into the 2 seed for the upcoming SAA Conference Tournament. With two regular season games remaining the Lynx will need a Sunday split, or a sweep, to secure the 2 seed over visiting BSC who is currently a game back of Rhodes in the standings.
Sunday's games are slated for 12:00 and 2:00 with Rhodes' two seniors,
Katie Stich and
Megan Matthews, being honored before the first game of the series.
