Jess Brown Sets Single Season Homerun Mark as the Lynx Roll on Sunday

On Senior Day, the Lynx rose to the occassion to send Megan Matthews and Katie Stich out on high notes with 2 more wins and a Sunday sweep of Birmingham Southern.

In game one, Rhodes exploded in the top of the 1st inning for 7 runs.  Rachel Pewitt hit a SAC fly to score Erin Parker, Katie Stich singled home Forrest Skelton, Williams doubled home Jessica Brown and Katie Stich, Megan Matthews doubled home Courtney Williams and Danielle Smith and Erin Parker brought Matthews home to account for the 7 spot.   With a sizable lead, Forrest Skelton went to work on the Panther's offense.  Skelton and the Lynx defense held the Panthers to 1 hit over 5 innings as the game was called early when yesterday's hero Desiree Buie delivered yet another walk-off single to end the contest in the bottom of the 5th - final score, 8-0.

The win moved the Lynx securely into 2nd place in the SAA and improved their overall record to 23-13 overall.

In game two, Rhodes' cardiac kids would find themselves back in a nail biter as BSC pushed 1 across in the top of the 1st, taking a momentary lead before the Lynx answered in the bottom of the frame to knot the game at 1's.  The score would remain tied until the top of the 3rd when the Panthers were able to plate their 2nd run of the day and take a 1 run advantage.   The lead held until the bottom of the 5th when Jessica Brown would come to the plate and blast her 11th homerun of the season making her the new single season homerun leader in Rhodes College Softball history.  Brown's solo shot ran the score back to even and that's where it would stay until the bottom of the 10th inning.   In the 10th, the Lynx would place Erin Parker on second base as part of the international tie-breaker rule.  Leadoff batter Forrest Skelton bunted Parker to third base and the next batter, Makenzie Martin, roped a one-hop shot glove side off short stop that allowed Parker to scamper home for the winning run making the final score, 3-2.

The sweep locked up the #2 seed for the Lynx in this weekend's conference tournament held in Danville KY at Centre College's facilities.   Rhodes will play the #7 seed Sewanee Tigers at 2:00pm on Friday to open their post season play.  Rhodes is now 24-13 on the season and 17-6 in SAA play.
