Lynx Defeat Majors on Friday


The Rhodes College baseball team defeated visiting Millsaps College 11-5 this afternoon at Stauffer Field.  Millsaps jumped out to an early 4-2 lead after two innings, but Rhodes was able to answer with three in the bottom of the fifth to take a 5-4 lead.  The Lynx would add two runs in each of the next three innings, and Millsaps would add a single run in the top of the eighth for the 11-5 final.  Senior RHP Jackson Baker picked up the win for the Lynx, as Rhodes improved to 19-17 on the year.

Jackson Baker worked the first 7.2 innings for the Lynx allowing 8 hits, 5 runs (3 earned), while walking 4, and striking out 5.  With the victory, Baker is now 7-4 on the year.  Senior RHP Stuart Voges relieved Baker with two outs in the top of the eighth, and only needed two pitches to end the Millsaps threat.  Junior LHP Max Halasz pitched the ninth for the Lynx, allowing one hit.  Rhodes was turned three double plays to end several Millsaps threats.

The Lynx offense was paced by senior 1B Matt Killary who was 3-4 with 2 RBIs, scored twice, and walked once.  Senior LF Channing Ardnt was 2-4 with a double, run scored, drove in a run, and walked once.  Senior SS Lynden Pindling was 2-5, scored twice and stole 4 bases.  Junior RF Patrick Kilkenny was 2-5 with 2 runs scored.  Senior C Matt Shaw was 1-2 with and RBI.  Sophomore 3B Josh Keen was 1-3, scored 3 times, walked twice, and stole a base.  Junior Strother White had a pinch hit 2 RBI double in the bottom of the seventh.

Rhodes and Millsaps will resume their final conference series of the year tomorrow at 1:00.
