Rhodes Softball took to the field for a rare mid-week game against cross town opponent Christian Brothers University in attempts to lay claim to the 2013 season series between the two programs. With each team winning one game to begin the season, Wednesday's game acted as the series tie breaker between the respective programs.
For Rhodes, both
Chloe Hundman and
Forrest Skelton pitched, Skelton eventually recieving the win in dramatic fashion. Down 2-0 with their final 3 outs to work with, the Lynx rallied for the victory at home.
Jessica Brown,
Rachel Pewitt and
Forrest Skelton all singled to begin the 7th bringing to the plate
Courtney Williams with bases loaded and no outs. Williams singled to left field scoring Brown and Pewitt to tie the score. After a fielder's choice which saw a Rhodes' runner cut down at third base,
Megan Matthews came to the plate and hit a ball that could not be handled cleanly by the pitcher to plate Williams for the game winning run.
For the Lynx,
Rachel Pewitt went 2-2 with a run scored and
Courtney Williams went 1-3 with a run scored and 2 RBI.
With the win, the Lynx move to 21-12 and will return to the diamond on Saturday to lock horns with SAA foe Birmingham Southern. Games begin at 12:00pm and 2:00pm.
