Game 1 - With both teams playing great defense, the scoreboard stayed quiet until the bottom of the 4th inning when
Makenzie Martin scored the first run of the ball game off a single by
Rachel Pewitt to give the Lynx a 1-0 lead. However, the lead was short lived as the Warriors scored 3 runs off a bases clearing double to jump in front by a count of 3-1. Rhodes would score a run in the bottom of the 5th when
Courtney Williams led off the inning with a double and later scored on a fly ball to shallow right field off the bat of
Megan Matthews. The score would remain 3-2 in favor of visting Hendrix until the bottom of the 7th when
Danielle Smith led off the inning with a base hit and promptly stole second. With a runner in scoring position, Matthews advanced Smith with a ground ball to bring the tying run to third. The next batter,
Erin Parker, roped a single down the left field line to score Smith and knot the game at 3's - and that's how the score would remain until the bottom of the 9th inning. In the bottom of the 9th, senior
Megan Matthews sailed her first homerun of the season off the left field foul-pole for a dramatic, walk-off homerun to take game 1. For the Lynx, Skelton received the win in the circle.
Game 2 - Fresh off the emotional win of the game 1, Rhodes put up 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning to take a commanding 4-0 lead. Hendrix would cut the Lynx lead in half, plating 2 runners in the 2nd inning, and another in the 4th inning closing the gap to 1 run; but Rhodes would respond. Rhodes scored 1 in the bottom of the 4th and 2 insurance runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to secure the 6-3 win. For the Lynx at the plate,
Rachel Pewitt was 3-4,
Danielle Smith was 2-3 with a double and
Forrest Skelton was 2-2.
Chloe Hundman pitched a complete game for Rhodes and recorded her 9th win of the season.
The wins improve Rhodes to 20-12 on the season and 14-5 in SAA play. Rhodes will return to the diamond on Wednesday for a rare mid-week game with Christain Brothers University (start time 4:30) before facing off against Birmingham Southern next weekend at home.
