Softball Splits Doubleheader with Millsaps

The Lynx returned to the field against the Millsaps Majors, looking to improve on their 2-2 SAA mark after last weekend's series split with Berry.

In game one, Rhodes lit up the scorebaord scoring 10 runs over 5 innings. The Lynx put 2 on the board in the 1st inning when a fly ball to right field, off the bat of Desiree Buie, mishandled allowing Erin Parker and Danielle Smith to advance and score easily.  In the 2nd inning, Smith singled to shallow left center allowing Amber Hunt to scurry home and increase the Rhodes' lead to 3-0.  The Lynx bats were momentarily silenced in the 3rd inning before erupting for 7 runs in the 4th - Makenzie Martin, Jessica BrownDesiree Buie and Forrest Skelton all recorded RBI's, ballooning the lead to 10-0, and cementing the win for Rhodes.

In game 2, it was the Lynx that again pushed across the contest's first runs; Courtney Williams singled home Rachel Pewitt in the 2nd, and Danielle Smith scored in the 3rd off a Major's infield error. However, Millsaps responded in the bottom half of the inning, plating 3 runs on a base clearing triple down the right field line.  Trailing for the first time on the day, Rhodes scored 1 in the 4th inning, courtesy of a solo homerun by Lynx slugger Jessica Brown, to once again even at the score, 3-3. Over the next 2 innings both squads would trade a run, sending the game into the bottom of the 7th, with the contest knotted at 4-4.  In the bottom half of the frame, Millsaps quickly saw two runners reach base safely before a double down the left field line scored the game winning run making the final score, 5-4 in favor of the Majors.

Rhodes returns to the field tomorrow for the final two games of the conference series.  Games begin at 12:00pm and 2:00pm.
