In game one, Wash U used a combination of productive plate appearances and Rhodes' defensive miscues to jump out to an early lead. The Bears plated 3 runs in the 1st inning and 2 more runners in the 3rd inning to push the score to 5-0 in their favor. Rhodes answered in the bottom of the 3rd, as
Makenzie Martin hit her first of three doubles on the afternoon, scoring 2 runners to bring the Lynx within 3 runs. However, the narrowed margin was short lived as Wash U put 4 more runs on the board in the top of the 4th increasing their lead to 9-2. Wash U then added 3 more in the top of the 5th frame, inflating the score to 12-2, but there was no quit in the Lynx as they battled back putting a 4 spot on the board in the bottom of the inning, making the score 12-6. Over the course of the next 2 innings, both clubs would push another run across to make the final score, 13-7.
Despite the loss, sophomore
Makenzie Martin had a career day at the plate going 3-4 (3 doubles), 4 RBI and 2 runs scored.
In game two, the Lynx looked to bounce back from the disappointment of game one and get back to their winning ways. However, game two's start was less than favorable as Transylvania hitters Michelle Ladanyi and Megan Mitchell accounted for back-to-back homeruns in the top of the 1st inning to put the Pioneers out in front by a score of 2-0. Rhodes answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the 1st, off a single by junior
Jessica Brown. In the bottom of the 2nd frame,
Courtney Williams would knot the score back up at 2-2 on a towering solo homerun, her second of the season. The Lynx added 4 more runs in the contest, thanks to two 2-run homerun off the bats of
Jessica Brown and
Amber Hunt. The contest's final score, 6-2 in favor of Rhodes.
Sunday's results move the Lynx record to 3-3 with visiting Depauw and Wisconsin Platteville scheduled for next weekend.
