Rhodes College sweep Saturday's doubleheader against the visitng Wisconsin-Platteville Pionners and the Depauw Tigers. Despite the unseasonable chilly weather in Memphis, neither Mother Nature nor the driving snow, could permanently cool off the Lynx bats as the team continues their offensive productivity.
Game one saw WPU take a 2-0 lead early before the Lynx responded to outscore the Pioneers 10-1 over the course of the next 6 innings. Although several Lynx recorded multiple base hits, the game's offensive star was freshman
Rachel Pewitt who hit her first collegiate homerun (3-run homerun) in the 5th inning to secure the game for Rhodes.
Chloe Hundman went the distance for the Lynx, earning her second win of the season.
Game two saw Rhodes put
Forrest Skelton in the circle against always dangerous Depauw. Unlike game one, it was the Lynx that struck first and pushed 2 runs across to take the early 2-0 lead. However, the lead was short lived as Depauw responded for 3 in the following frame. The game would remain deadlocked until the bottom of the 6th inning when Rhodes' Dannielle Smith hit a ball sharply between the first and second baseman to score 2 runner and retake the lead at 4-3. In the bottom of the 7th, Depauw would see their first two batters reach base safely but the Lynx defense was stout, giving up no runs and securing the game two win. Skelton went the distance for Rhodes and earned her third win of the early season.
