Game One of the Rhodes Classic matched the visting Transylvania Pioneers against the home Lynx. Freshman
Chloe Hundman took to the cricle for Rhodes and was dominant in her performance; pitching a complete game without allowing a walk or a single Pioneer to cross home plate. Hundman was able to stay a head in her counts all morning, mixing speeds and locations to keep Transylvania hitters off balance. The 8-0 win was the first of Hundman's college career.
Offensively, after a difficult first inning for the Lynx, Rhodes' batters made adjustments at the plate which saw each individual in the offensive lineup record at least one hit in the contest. Recording multiple hits for the Lynx were,
Rachel Pewitt (double, single, 3 runs scored),
Amber Hunt,
Allycia Kleine (2 singles, 2 RBI) and
Courtney Williams - who ended the contest early with a walk-off single in the 6th inning.
Game Two saw the Lynx take the field again, this time against the visiting Wash U. Bears. In a game that saw both squads throw their #1 pitchers,
Forrest Skelton for Rhodes matched pitches with Kelsey Neal for Wash U. Rhodes struck first in the 1st inning off a double by
Jessica Brown. The Lynx lead held until the top of the 3rd inning when pitcher Kelsey Neal helped her own cause and sailed a two-run homerun over the left center fence making the score 2-1 in favor of the Bears. Wash U would add one more run in the 5th to bring the count to 3-1. In the bottom of the 7th inning Rhodes rallied for an additional run when
Amber Hunt drove a ball to deep center field scoring
Courtney Williams. Unfortunately, Rhodes' rally would fall short when a line drive off the bat of
Danielle Smith was snared by Stacy Berg saving the game for the Bears and stranding two Lynx runners.
Rhodes returns to the field tomorrow at 10:00 am vs Wash U and 2:00 pm vs Transylvania.
