Rhodes traveled to Christian Brothers University (Memphis TN) to open their 2013 season with a doubleheader against the Lady Bucs. In game one of the series, sophomore
Forrest Skelton took to the mound for the Lynx and after a bumpy first inning which saw 3 runs scored, all earned, Skelton settled in to blank the Bucs over the remaining six innings. With Skelton dialed in, Rhodes' offense went to work on CBU's pitchers, pounding out 10 hits and plating 7 runs in the contest. The offensive star for the Lynx in the first game was freshman
Danielle Smith who was 2-4, with a double and an RBI.
In game two, Rhodes again fell behind early, this time due the Lady Bucs putting up 7 runs in bottom of the second inning. A combination of timely hitting for CBU, and defensive miscuse for Rhodes were too much for the Lady Lynx to overcome. When the dusk settled, despite several Lynx recording mulitple hits, (
Erin Parker 2-4,
Jessica Brown 2-4 with 2 doubles,
Amber Hunt 2-3 and
Courtney Williams 3-3 with a homerun) Christian Brothers defeated the Lynx, 13-6.
Rhodes returns to action next Saturday when they host Transylvania and Washington University.
