SHREVEPORT, La. – Rhodes women's basketball stretches the win streak to eight as they defeated Centenary College on Monday, 73-47.
The Lynx improve to 8-0 on the season while the Ladies fall to 0-6 on the year.
Rhodes dominated from the get go, commanding a lead with a 9-0 run to begin the contest, propelled by a pair of jumpers from Dy'Nelle Todman and Layups from Laurent Avant and
Symone Daniels. Rhodes continued to build on the gap, firing a 16-0 run over the span of four minutes to the 5:21 mark aided by three threes from
Natalie Goodrum, Blair Smith and Todman. The Lynx closed out the first half with a 10-2 run to take a 40-16 lead into the half.
The Lynx were led at the half by Avant, who netted 11 points in the opening period. Todman added nine points at the break with Daniels contributing eight. Rhodes shot 41.2 percent at the half, 4-9 from beyond the three point arc. The Ladies were led by Rhonda Martin who scored seven first half points. The Lynx held Centenary College to just 20.8 percent shooting in the first half, and only 12 percent from beyond the three point arc.
Rhodes continued to run the table in the second half, widening the spread with a 7-0 run the begin the second half, making the count 47-18 with 16:32 left to play. Centenary found a spurt of energy, mustering a 12-2 run to take it to 69-40 with 2:47 left to play, but it wasn't enough as the Lynx closed out the contest with a pair of jumpers from Lindsay Conley and Smith to make the final count 73-47.
Briana Edwards led the way for the Ladies, scoring 11 points. Haley Deshautelle was right behind her adding 10 to the Centenary total. The Ladies bettered their shooting in the second half, improving their field goal percentage to 28.1 percent.
Rhodes' leaders were Avant with 16 points paired with three steals and one assist. Smith worked her way into double digits, scoring 11 points. Todman chipped in 10 points with four rebounds and three assists. The Lynx shot 37.1 percent from the field in the contest, connecting on 7-19 from beyond the three point arc.
Rhodes will enjoy the holiday break before returning to action. The Lynx will return home to host the Bancorp South Holiday Classic on Dec. 29-30. Rhodes will face off against Westminster College at 6 p.m. on Dec. 29.
