After an exciting ribbon cutting ceremony before the first game on their new turf, the Rhodes field hockey team secured their third SAA win of the season over Hendrix. The Lynx improved to 4-2 on the year and 3-0 in SAA play with the victory.
After a rough start Rhodes came alive in the second half when senior
Katie Faucher scored the game winner on an assist from
Kat Simpson just five minutes after halftime. The Lynx continued to build and dominate and Kat Taylor put a second goal in with 20 minutes to go, also on an assist from
Kat Simpson. Hendrix continued to play tough and pressure the Lynx defensive unit and managed to score on a corner to close the margin to 2-1 which would be the final score. The Warrior's lone goal was scored by Dani Coley on an assist from Jennifer Koller.
The Lynx dominated much of play, outshooting Hendrix 13-6 and holding a 14-4 advantage in penalty corner opportunities. The Warrior's goalkeeper, Betsy Kelly, kept them in the game with 10 saves on the day while the Lynx'
Jordan Robinson secured 5 saves. Rhodes' Sam Anscher and
Corrinne Palmer had great games on defense while
Regan McLaughlin and
Sarah Ferguson held down the middle. Freshmen
Evy Royther and
Julie Hertzman generated much of the attack for the Lynx, earning 9 of the Lynx 14 corners.
Rhodes (4-2, 3-0 SAA) will host Lindenwood on Saturday September 29th and Sewanee on Sunday September 30th, both games are slated for noon starts.
