#18 Washington University defeated the Lynx soccer team 3-0 in Memphis Saturday afternoon. The Bearcats scored in the 33rd minute when a poor defensive clearance went to a Washington University player at the edge of the box who calmly put it in the back of the net. The Lynx rebounded from the error and played the Bearcats even going into the half down 1-0 and trailing 5-3 on shots. Washington University struck again in the 55th minute when Freshman GK Riley Sheen tried to tip a cross over the bar and saw the ball deflect off the crossbar back in front to a Wash U forward who put in the 2nd Bearcat goal of the game. "It was deflating to give away 2 goals that easily " explained Head Coach Andy Marcinko, " But good teams are right on top of you when you make a mistake as was the case today."   Washington University added a 3rd goal in the 77th minute and the game ended 3-0 with the Bearcats outshooting the Lynx 18-7 .  " We were very dissapointed in the team today, especially with several of our returning players,  we were very sloppy in the back and the team gave too many balls away all over the field" , said Marcinko.  " Our players know they missed a great oppourtunity to perform against a top 20 team and we have to learn from the experience, regroup and continue moving forward as we prepare for SAA play".
